Food Safety

Sunrise Growers is deeply committed to producing top quality products that are safe to eat. As leaders in our industry, we go beyond the standard food safety procedures & requirements that govern our industry and have adapted more stringent protocols from ready-to-eat food categories, such as fresh salad mixes. We closely monitor & test our products to ensure they meet our high standards for safety and quality. As a best practice, our quality assurance professionals routinely test & monitor the environment of our facilities, conduct microbial swabs of critical surfaces of our processing equipment, perform detailed water analysis and evaluate quality of ingredients. At the farm level, our highly experienced global field operations team supports our growers with training & best practices to help eliminate & reduce potential food safety. We have automated crop input record keeping to facilitate full product traceability by lot code back to the field level.

Our Global Food Safety Program

Our global food safety program is founded on the principles of Good Agriculture Practices (GAPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HAACP) program, established by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We are committed to continuous improvement and reinforce our food safety principles & protocols through training & education, testing and annual third party audits. All facilities operate state-of-the-art metal detection systems and strictly adhere to our calibration and standard operating policies (SOP’s).

Audit

Sunrise Growers hires independent third party auditors from the California Processing Strawberry Advisory Board to inspect and grade all incoming fruit against a set of rigid standards established by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. In addition our Field Operations, Quality Assurance (QA), and Procurement teams verify that GAPs, GMP’s and HACCP programs are being followed at the facilities and farms in all locations where we operate. Audits to verify compliance are performed by certified, independent third-party agencies. Our processing facilities have received Safe Quality Food (SQF) Level 3 certification, the highest global standard for food safety programs.

Highlights from our Global Food Safety Program & Additional Certifications:
